crib /krib/ n. 1. A city of Chicago water intake facility located in Lake Michigan, about two miles off the shore. There are two active cribs, each linked to the city by underground tunnel. Originally designed by Ellis S. Chesbrough, the cribs were built far from the city to draw cleaner water. The first was completed in the 1860s. The current cribs supply about 70 percent of the city's water. 2. Home. "I'm tired. I'm going back to the crib." 3. A bed for babies.
