8/8/88 / ate ate A tee ATE/ n. The first scheduled night game at Wrigley Field but, as Cubs fans know, not the first night game at Wrigley Field. The long-awaited first game under the lights on Aug. 8, 1988, was rained out in the fourth inning (the Cubs were winning 3-1 against the Phillies). The first game then became 8/9/88 -- a 6-4 win over the Mets. The Cubs had been the only team in the majors without lights.
