Matteson

June 22, 2009

Matteson /MATT tuh sun/ n. Perhaps the most mispronounced name of all of Chicago's suburbs. It's not ''MATT-sun.'' It's got three syllables and sounds a lot like Madison, Wis. The south suburb is named for Joel Aldrich Matteson, the 10th governor of Illinois (1853 to 1857). The businessman was in office when the area was settled.
