Metra / MEH truh / n. The shortened -- and, in practice, only -- name for Metropolitan Rail, the commuter rail service created by the RTA Act of 1983. Every weekday, Metra runs 702 trains carrying a total of 320,000 passengers in Chicago and the suburbs.
