Adventureland

April 6, 2009

Adventureland /ad ven CHUR land/ n. Not the teen movie but the now-demolished amusement park that sat at the northwest corner of Lake Street and Medinah Road, just outside west suburban Addison. It thrilled kids from 1961 to 1977, when it closed amid competition from the newly opened Great America. Parts of it live on, including the huge "Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe," which is now the 5th hole of the miniature golf course at the Green Valley Golf Range in Hanover Park.
