Chicagoland area
November 26, 2008
Chicagoland area /shh CAW go land AIR ee ah / n. A redundancy. The word "Chicagoland," which was coined by the Chicago Tribune, already annoys some people. Add the unneeded "area" to the term, and you can really drive some purists nuts. When used, the term refers to Chicago and its suburbs -- including parts of southern Wisconsin and northwest Indiana.
