Conrad Black says prison life 'safe and civilized'
Conrad Black told a Canadian news agency he's adapting well to life in a Florida prison, where he is serving his 6½-year term for fraud and obstruction of justice.
"I am doing fine," the former newspaper baron wrote in an e-mail to the Canadian Press a few days after he reported to Coleman Federal Prison on March 3. "This is a safe and civilized place, and I don't anticipate any difficulty."
Black's appeal is expected to go before the court in June, and prosecutors are due to file their reply next month.
How Black's e-mail was sent is unclear. But an official at the prison said the facility is equipped to run a computer-generated pilot program, which stays on the bureau prison server, can only go to people on an approved e-mail list, and never goes out directly on the Internet.
