Former Sun-Times publisher Radler in prison
David Radler, who helped federal prosecutors secure a conviction against former Sun-Times owner Conrad Black, went to prison today.
Radler, once the second-in-command in the world's third-largest media empire, entered the Moshannon Valley federal prison at Philipsburg, Pa., to begin his 29-month sentence for fraud.
He's the first of four defendants to have to report prison, after cutting a deal with prosecutors to testify against his former boss and three colleagues: Jack Boultbee, Peter Atkinson and Mark Kipnis.
Black, Atkinson and Boultbee are set to begin serving their sentences March 3. An appeals court ruled against Black on Friday in his request for an emergency decision on his request to remain free on bond while appealing his sentence.
Black will have to serve 6 1/2-years, while Boultbee to was sentenced to 27 months and Atkinson to 24 months. Kipnis, a former Hollinger lawyer, was sentenced to house arrest.
