U.S. concerned mogul might be a flight risk
U.S. prosecutors have asked that Conrad Black's bond be revoked, expressing concern that it would be difficult to extradite him back to Chicago if he were allowed to return to his home in Canada.
Black's attorney, Edward Greenspan, has assured a federal judge that Black would return for sentencing and that he has waived extradition.
If Black wanted to skip both Canada and the U.S., he could try Cuba, which has a "history of resistance" to U.S. wishes, noted DePaul University criminal law professor Stephan Landsman.
Namibia is another option. The U.S. is still waiting for the African nation to extradite Israeli businessman and fraud suspect Kobi Alexander. Extradition proceedings could be years away.
