FEWER CUTS PLANNED
Fewer employers plan significant job cuts this year, but no boom in hiring is foreseen, according to a survey by Manpower’s Right Management.
Sixty-five percent of survey respondents said they plan practically no staff cuts this year, up from 52 percent who said so a year earlier.
The survey also found:
† 58 percent expect nominal hiring on an as-needed basis, down from 62 percent.
† 20 percent expect stepped-up hiring to drive strategic growth, up from 17 percent.
† 21 percent expect more hiring to fill existing gaps, up from 18 percent.
Employers are still expected to try to make do with less even as they seek growth, according to Donna DiMenna, Right Management’s talent management practice leader for the Midwest. She noted “management has to take into account the stress all this creates. Organizations will need to be effective with their talent strategies to nurture employee engagement, productivity and performance with their streamlined work forces.”
