Updated: November 2, 2011 6:06PM

ATLANTA — Gov. Nathan Deal has announced that The Home Depot, the Georgia-based home improvement retailer, will create a new national customer service call center in the metro Atlanta suburb of Kennesaw.

Deal said the project will create nearly 700 jobs.

Authorities said recruiting for the new positions will begin in early 2012, and the center is expected to be fully operational by late 2012.

Deal said the company plans to open the center initially with more than 400 workers and is expected to expand to 700 positions by 2015.

The Home Depot describes itself as the world’s largest home improvement specialty retailer, with 2,246 retail stores.
