Wal-Mart plans 2nd Lake View store

Wal-Mart is planning a second Lake View store at 3636 N. Broadway, near Wrigley Field, a company spokesman confirmed today.
The convenience-store-sized Wal-Mart Express store is about a mile north of a larger Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market store planned at 2840 N. Broadway. The Neighborhood Market site has prompted protests from some small retailers and community groups who say the Bentonville, Ark.-based retail giant will hurt mom-and-pop stores and change their neighborhood character.
The 3636 N. Broadway site, formerly housing Recycled Paper Greetings and vacant for the past four years, doesn’t need a zoning change.
