State to collect applications for Ford jobs

Ford Motor Co. is once again putting out a call for temporary workers to staff its assembly plant in Chicago’s Hegewisch community.

The Illinois Department of Employment Security said it will hand out job applications from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at five area locations. The jobs involve installing components on vehicles on an assembly line. Temporary workers will be used to fill gaps in staffing during the summer, Megan Whatman, a Ford spokeswoman, said Thursday. The jobs will pay $15.51 an hour, she said.

State employment offices won’t be distributing applications. Instead, state employees will be at:

† Richton Park Village Hall, 4455 Sauk Trail.

† Human Development Center, 142 E. 154th St., Harvey.

† Phalanx, 10325 S. Halsted St., Chicago.

† Woodlawn Employment Center, 6101 S. Evans, Chicago.

† Dorolyn Academy of Music, 411 South Boulevard, Oak Park.

The employment department said it won’t evaluate job applicants, who need to show a valid driver’s license or state ID card to complete the application. To be considered, they need a high school diploma or GED.
