A renovation to a classic LaSalle Street building, an addition to an East Loop high-rise and an attraction appealing to thrill-seekers at the Willis Tower Skydeck were among the winners Thursday night of the annual Chicago Commercial Real Estate Awards, considered the Oscars of the industry.
The awards were announced at an annual dinner that raises money for the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Organizers said the event at the Hyatt Regency Chicago raised more than $800,000.
The Ledge, a feature that lets people look straight down from the 103rd-story Skydeck, was recognized as special achievement of 2010.
Named top redevelopment of 2010 was the project by developer Michael Reschke at 208 S. LaSalle, where a JW Marriott hotel has joined renovated office space.
The 300 E. Randolph building was recognized as development of the year. Health Care Service Corp., owner of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, ordered a 24-story addition to what was a 33-story building overlooking Grant Park.
Fifield Cos. was honored as developer of the year for completing an 848-unit apartment complex in the West Loop called Alta at K Station.
The Sun-Times founded the awards, now in their 23rd year. Current sponsors are Crain’s Chicago Business and Associated Bank. Nominees are picked by an industry panel and winners are decided by a secret vote of the dinner’s ticket buyers.
