Some of Leslie Scrushy’s jewelry to be auctioned

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Nine pieces of jewelry that once belonged to former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy’s wife are set to be auctioned off next month.

Sotheby’s auction house plans to auction off the rings, earrings and bracelets that are worth an estimated combined value of $1.3 million. They include a 20-carat diamond ring valued at up to $700,000.

The Birmingham News reports that the jewels are part of about $3 million worth of jewelry that Leslie Scrushy surrendered to settle claims that she sheltered her husband’s assets to keep the company from seizing them.

Richard Scrushy was found liable last year in civil court for accounting fraud. He was ordered to pay $3.2 billion including interest to the physical rehabilitation provider to which he no longer has ties.
