Neiman Marcus offering free shipping, returns

DALLAS — Luxury retailer Neiman Marcus is offering free standard shipping and returns permanently for all domestic purchases made on its websites or at its Bergdorf Goodman and namesake stores.

The move comes as the holiday season draws closer. This is a critical time for retailers, as it can make up to 40 percent of their annual revenue.

Neiman Marcus is also trying to keep pace with competitors like Nordstrom Inc., who already offer permanent free shipping and returns on domestic purchases.

Wanda Gierhart, chief marketing officer for the Neiman Marcus Group, said in a statement that the permanent free shipping and returns was a top request from its customers.

Neiman Marcus, which is being purchased by Ares Management and Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board for $6 billion, said Tuesday that all international orders that cost more than $100 will ship free of charge.

Neiman Marcus’ buyout by Ares and the Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board was announced in September. The deal is expected to be finalized in the fourth quarter. It would end control of the luxury retailer by private equity firms TPG Capital and Warburg Pincus. They bought the Dallas company for $5.1 billion in 2005.
