HOUSTON (AP) — U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia says he thinks Christian values are necessary for capitalism to succeed.
He tackled the question of whether capitalism or socialism is better for Christian values in an appearance Friday at a religious library in Houston.
But the Houston Chronicle reports that Scalia said he wouldn’t argue one of those system was “more Christian” than the other.
Scalia also took audience questions from whether he has a favorite opera — he doesn’t — to whether justices change their views the longer they serve on the bench.
The well-known conservative responded that he’s further from the left-leaning justices than ever.
Asked about Syria, where President Barack Obama is pushing for military action, Scalia demurred, but said, “I have strong views on it, though.”
