DRAPER, Utah (AP) — Gov. Gary Herbert was on hand for a grand opening of eBay’s new operations center in Utah.
The Internet company showed off a 241,000-square-foot building on Friday in the Salt Lake City suburb of Draper.
Ebay has been in Utah for 13 years and employs about 1,800 people in customer service, corporate functions and technology.
The company says it plans to add 1,600 jobs over many years for an eventual total of 3,400.
EBay is among a number of technology companies being drawn to Utah with tax incentives. Others include Adobe, IM Flash, and most recently Vivint Home Security.
An eBay executive says Utah’s workforce has technical know-how and speaks many languages, a function of the Mormon culture of foreign missions.
The company says it has room to grow at a Draper corporate park.
