Demonstrators disrupt Wells Fargo meeting

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Wells Fargo says a dozen people protesting mortgage policies disrupted a shareholders’ meeting in Salt Lake City, and one of them tried to make a citizen’s arrest of the bank’s CEO.

Wells Fargo spokesman Ancel Martinez says the man who tried to make a citizen’s arrest Tuesday was escorted out of the meeting by private security guards, together with other protesters who spoke out of turn.

Salt Lake City police say they made no arrests in or outside the Grand America hotel, where about 30 demonstrators lingered to air complaints about Wells Fargo’s consumer lending and mortgage practices.

Many of the protesters are from San Francisco. They say Wells Fargo has been slow to forgive or adjust mortgage loans on homes that have been devalued by the recession.
