Maclaren stroller recall announced over amputation concern
Owners of some 1 million Maclaren strollers are being told to stop using them until they receive a repair kit to cover the hinges.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission said Maclaren issued the voluntary repair recall after reports of 12 children having a fingertip amputated by a hinge machanism. The umbrella strollers are folded and opened by foot, but children nearby or getting in are at risk of catching fingers in the hinge when the stroller opens and hinge locks. The strollers were sold by Target and Babies R Us over the past 10 years.
The company is offering free hinge covers to prevent future incidents. To get one, call Maclaren USA toll-free at (877) 688-2326 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Central time Monday through Friday, or visit www.maclaren.us/recall.
