PAXTON, Ill. — A 10-mile stretch of eastern Illinois highway that’s now home to almost a hundred wind turbines could soon see dozens more.
Chicago-based Akuo Energy USA and a Bureau County-based firm called Stewardship Energy LLC have applied with Ford County to build a 100-megawatt wind-energy project along Illinois 9. The site is near Paxton and about 30 miles north of Champaign. It would sit next to the 150-megawatt Pioneer Trail Wind Farm built in 2011.
The News-Gazette in Champaign (http://bit.ly/WusAHG ) reports that the companies want to erect up to 49 new turbines over the next year in what they’re calling the Dogtown Wind Project.
The project’s application says it would cost about $200 million to build and produce eight full-time jobs.
