Jewel closing three grocery stores

Updated: February 7, 2013 7:22PM

Jewel-Osco will close three grocery stores by April 5, in Chicago, Niles and Aurora, that together employ 300.

The closings are part of the company’s regular evaluations of store performance, and the employees will be able to transfer to other Jewel-Osco stores, said company spokeswoman Karen May.

All of the stores are leased, and the leases will not be renewed.

The stores are at 3940 E. 106th St. in Chicago, slated to close April 5; 1270 N. Lake St. in Aurora, scheduled for a Feb. 15 closing, and at 8203 W. Golf Road in Niles, slated to close April 5.

Jewel-Osco’s parent company, Supervalu, is selling the Jewel-Osco grocery chain to Cerberus Capital Management in a deal scheduled to close in the spring.
