Motorola Solutions said Wednesday it will move its North American sales leadership team of about 100 people to its new downtown space in the old Santa Fe building at 224 S. Michigan Ave.
The team will move in January from the company’s Schaumburg headquarters as part of Motorola Solutions’ promise to house 400 of its employees in downtown Chicago. The initial commitment called for the move by year’s end, but the company now says it will hit the 400-person mark by the end of 2013.
The company is the walkie-talkie, radio frequency identification technology and bar-code scanning portion of the old Motorola Inc.
Motorola Solutions has for years had about 100 employees working at a separate downtown office at 233 N. Michigan, and they are being included in the 400 total.
Spokeswoman Tama McWhinney said the company is still deciding on a Chicago site to house the remaining 200 employees by the end of 2013, and which employees will move downtown from Schaumburg.
Motorola Solutions employs 23,000 worldwide, including 5,000 in the Chicago area.
