Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Thursday named Richard Price to the board of the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority, the state agency that owns U.S. Cellular Field.
Price is the chairman of Chicago-based investment bank Mesirow Financial Holdings Inc.
He will succeed Christopher Melvin Jr., who has been named to the Regional Transit Authority board.
“I am excited to have Richard join the team at ISFA, where there are great financial challenges and opportunities for the city and state,” Emanuel said in a press release. “Richard’s unique breadth and depth of experience is impressive and will be crucial for the city’s team on this important board.”
Price is an investor in Wrapports LLC, which owns the Sun-Times. He has been Mesirow’s chairman since March 2011, when he took over the firm after the death of James Tyree.
At the time of his death, Tyree led an investment group that owned the Sun-Times and major newspapers throughout the suburbs. That group sold the papers to Wrapports last December.
Price joined Mesirow 40 years ago and completed acquisitions that made it one of the largest independent insurance agencies in Chicago. Sun-Times Media
