Mariano’s to open in South Loop in fall 2013

An upscale Mariano’s grocery store is slated to open in the fall of 2013 at the southeast corner of 16th and Clark streets, the parent company said Thursday.
The Mariano’s stores feature coffee and sandwich bars, an on-site sushi chef, pizzas freshly made in an Italian oven, organic selections of produce and groceries and fresh varieties of fish and meat cut to order.
Construction on the South Loop store has started on what is now a vacant site. The store is expected to create 450 jobs, and hiring will start in the summer of 2013.
