American Airlines tells pilots to end disruptions, threatens court action

Updated: September 27, 2012 11:16AM

DALLAS — American Airlines says if pilots don’t end actions that are disrupting its flights, it will take the union to court.

American says increased sick days and maintenance complaints by pilots have caused a spike in canceled and delayed flights in September. The airline believes pilots are protesting against the company’s decision, while under bankruptcy protection, to cancel the union’s contract and set pay and work rules for pilots.

The Allied Pilots Association denies there is an organized sickout or slowdown, and it blames the flight problems on a shortage of pilots and old planes that have frequent maintenance needs.
