A third Mariano’s supermarket in Chicago opens at 6 a.m. Tuesday at 5353 N. Elston Ave., employing 450, according to Milwaukee-based parent company Roundy’s.
The upscale grocery stores, which feature coffee bars, an on-site sushi chef, pizzas freshly made in an Italian oven, also operate at 333 E. Benton Place in Lakeshore East and at 3350 N. Western Ave. at Roscoe and Western. The newest store, which serves the Jefferson Park, Forest Glen and nearby neighborhoods, will feature an expanded vitamin section.
Mariano’s last year cited a goal of opening 20 grocery stores throughout the Chicago area. So far, there are seven, including stores in Arlington Heights, Hoffman Estates, Palatine and Vernon Hills.
Roundy’s CEO, Robert Mariano, is a Chicago native and former Dominick’s CEO.
