At Apple’s flagship Michigan Avenue store, a handful of customers stopped in at the store and followed liveblogs of the launch on display model computers and iPads. Though the launches of previous iPhones had been broadcast on a large screen aWednesday’s launch was not shown.
“We’re very excited,” said Jwan McGregor, 55, who visited with her husband, retired accountant Walter McGregor, 66, in hopes of picking up the new model.
Though those hopes were dashed, the Gold Coast couple said they’d both get the latest version as soon as it was available.
“We think they’re amazing products,” Walter McGregor said. “I’ve got the original iPhone so anything would be an upgrade for me.”
Bethany Sullivan, 25, also of the Gold Coast, followed the launch on Twitter while she visited the Apple store. She also plans to upgrade from the iPhone 4s.
“I heard the new phone is supposed to be easier to use with one hand,” she said. “My first iPhone was was life-changing so the new one is going to be awesome.”
Erica Hurst, 43, of Hyde Park, bought an iPhone in June but thinks she’ll upgrade soon.
“Faster, bigger and lighter? I may have to,” she said.
