NEW YORK — Samsung says its new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S III, will be launched by all of the Big 4 national U.S. wireless carriers this month, starting at $199.
Apart from Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile USA, regional carrier U.S. Cellular will also sell the phone, South Korea-based Samsung Electronics Co. says.
Samsung says phone companies will announce specific launch dates and prices later.
The Galaxy series has emerged as the most popular alternative to Apple Inc.’s iPhone. It runs Google’s Android software. The S III has a 4.8-inch screen, nearly twice as much area as the iPhone. Yet the phone is slightly thinner and lighter than Apple’s phone.
The S III went on sale Europe and the Middle East last week.
