A 14-year employee of the Kane County Highway Department died Wednesday after finishing a shift plowing the county roads.
William “P.T.” Scardamaglia had recently returned from plowing the roads and was refilling his truck with salt when he collapsed, according to Kane County Board Chairman Karen McConnaughay.
Scardamaglia, of St. Charles, was transported to Delnor Hospital in Geneva where he was pronounced dead, McConnaughay said. Scardamaglia’s age and cause of death were not immediately known.
Campton Hills police and paramedics from the St. Charles Fire Department and Tri-City Ambulance gave life support.
In 2003, Scardamaglia filed to run in the Republican primary for Kane County chairman, but withdrew after challenges to the signatures on his petition.
