Toyota’s 2014 lineup offers reliability in trusted names

The 2014 Toyota Avalon is known for big comfort and quality, spacious interiors. The Avalon’s handling qualities are improved and even higher-quality cabin materials have been integrated into the near-luxury sedan. Toyota’s silky smooth 3.5-liter V6 engine, which delivers 268 horsepower while still earning a 25 mpg combined EPA fuel economy rating, makes the $32,150 msrp impressive. Avalon has a hybrid version, too.


The 2014 Toyota Highlander is a standout family vehicle featuring a powerful V6, improved fuel economy and a newer, more spacious cabin. The redesigned cabin now offers seating for eight passengers. The Highlander has an msrp of $30,075 - $43,590. A 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine offers 187 horsepower and a 3.5-liter V6 provides 270 hp. A hybrid model pairs the V6 with an electric motor for 280 hp.


The 2014 Toyota Corolla is fully redesigned. With an edgier exterior, the Corolla comes standard with a mild-mannered drive attitude accenting notable gas mileage, user-friendly features and reliability. A new CVT takes the place of an automatic transmission on some versions. A 1.8-liter engine earns best-in-class mpg numbers, achieving an EPA combined rating of 35 mpg along with a highway rating of 42 mpg. MSRP $17,610 - $21,300.

Land Cruiser

The 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser is an iconic nameplate that just underwent a heavy refresh in 2013. Seating up to eight, it has a powerful V8 engine and the unique proposition of having all features standard. Posh interior comfort is the norm and outstanding build and technology connectivity are to be expected.


For 2014, the 5-passenger hatchback Toyota Prius sees no notable changes. Competition is heavy in the hybrid segment and the Toyota Prius has dominated for 10 years. The 2014 Prius delivers everything consumers in this class want. The fuel economy is an EPA combined rating of 50 mpg. Choose from four trim levels: Two, Three, Four and Five.


For 2014, the Toyota Camry is a benchmark for many family sedan consumers. Unchanged in 2014 except for the addition of the SE Sport trim, Camry adds some bigger wheels, power driver seat and sunroof to the 4-cylinder SE’s equipment list. Offering either the 4-cylinder, V6 engine and Hybrid, Camry delivers great build quality and a reputation for reliability at a base $23,045.


The 2014 Toyota Venza provides seating for five, a comfortable ride and ample cargo space. A standard 4-cylinder engine powers the Venza, though there is a optional V6 which gets nearly the same fuel economy. Both engines are available with automatic transmissions and front- or all-wheel drive. Fuel economy is 20/26 mpg city/highway for the 4-cylinder and 19/26 mpg for the V6.


With a base $27,195, the 2014 Toyota Tundra offers new exterior styling and interior. The Entune smartphone-connected services are now available in the Tundra. A rearview camera is now standard across the board, and a blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alerts is a new option. There is a capable entry-level V6 and a midrange 4.6-liter V8. The top-of-the-line 5.7-liter V8 is standout performer.

Well-known for its refined cabin comfort and spaciousness, the 2014 Toyota Sequoia is a big SUV that can haul lots of people and payload. The 2014 Sequoia features a V8 engine that provides ample power. Matched with a six-speed automatic transmission, the Sequoia gets a 13/17 mpg city/highway. The towing capacity of 7,400 pounds.


The RAV4 is mostly unchanged in 2014. There is a new Technology package for the Limited model that bundles blind-spot monitoring with a lane departure warning system and automatic high-beam control. The RAV4 combines trendy compact SUV styling with interior spaciousness and utility convenience that is the signature of small crossovers. MSRP $24,410 - $29,720.


The 2014 Tacoma’s smaller size is attractive to many fans of the pickup format. Look for no-nonsense interior design, spacious Double Cab seating and reliable value. A 4-cylinder engine is standard with an optional V6 adding power for towing or hauling. Fuel economy an EPA-estimated 21/25 mpg city/highway.

FJ Cruiser

The 2014 FJ Cruiser is still the quirky looking 5-passenger midsize SUV that polarizes consumers who gawk at its distinct style. In its last year of production, the off-road-ready FJ Cruiser has an msrp of $27,990 - $28,720. To mark its retirement, Toyota is offering a special Ultimate Edition.


The 2014 Toyota 4Runner, $33,360 msrp, offers great off-road capability with its body on frame structure and standard 4.0-liter V6 engine that produces 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque. A five-speed automatic transmission is also standard. Revised exterior and interior styling, a new touchscreen-based audio system and the Entune suite of smartphone-connected apps are standard for all trim levels.
