Maybe it was the beer talking. Or perhaps Blackhawks fan Greg DiMenna thought, the world may end this year — so what the heck!
No, the 26-year-old Lemont Casanova insists he would have declared his love for Comcast SportsNet Chicago reporter Sarah Kustok under any circumstances.
DiMenna did so on the ice during Thursday night’s Blackhawks vs. Minnesota Wild game, after participating — and not otherwise scoring — in the “Shoot the Puck” competition.
Kustok was interviewing DiMenna on live TV in front of some 20,000 fans, when he put his arm around the reporter and declared: “I love you, Sarah. You’re so pretty and beautiful. I love you.”
An apparently stunned Kustok replied: “Oh, my ... I’m going to say, thank you.”
DiMenna, who is “in between jobs,” said Friday that he’s a longtime fan of Kustok’s beauty, intelligence and comprehensive sports knowledge.
“I had to,” he explained of his declaration. “Every guy in Chicago thinks the same thing about her.”
Still, he said a little liquid courage helped the situation.
DiMenna has no regrets about what he did, except one: he didn’t ask Kustok out on a date.
“If she reads this article, I am open for a date,” he said. “Out to eat — somewhere nice. I’d pay for it.”
