Metra trains were delayed up to 45 minutes Monday night because of a switching problem near a Downtown station.
The train service experienced switching problems near Union Station at Polk Street about 5 p.m., causing delays up to 45 minutes on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe and SouthWest lines, Metra spokesman Tom Miller said.
Trains were moving by 6:15 p.m.
“Between 4:45 and 6:30 is our biggest time of the evening rush,” Miller said. “Trains are moving, but we are just playing catch up.”
The delays prompted commuters to take to Twitter, complaining about “bad stuff going down at Union Station” and “hundreds of people standing around.”
