A south suburban man was accused Monday of beating a Chicago paramedic treating him in an ambulance after a crash.

“He didn’t say anything, he just jumped up and started beating on the paramedic,” a police lieutenant said.

The Chicago Fire Department paramedic signed a complaint saying the man struck the paramedic in the head with his fists in the back of an ambulance in a parking lot of Holy Cross Hospital, police said.

Mohamed Natour, 31, of Alsip, is charged with one count of aggravated battery. He’s accused of leaving the paramedic with bruises and swelling to his forehead, and abrasions and swelling to the leg.

The attack happened after emergency personnel responded about 3:15 a.m. to the crash near the intersection of South Racine Avenue and West 76th Street, according to Fire Media Affairs.

Natour, whose arm was hurt in the crash, allegedly attacked the lone paramedic riding in the back of the ambulance with him as they pulled into the hospital parking lot, police said.

The paramedic’s partner, who was driving the ambulance, ran for help and, along with hospital security guards, was able to restrain the patient, police said.

The suspect apparently attacked “out of nowhere,” the lieutenant said. Both the paramedic and the offender were treated at Holy Cross and released.
