A North Chicago man was nabbed last week after robbing four women at gunpoint, including a Catholic nun, in a spree that also included three car burglaries in north suburban Waukegan.
Albert C. Evans of the 1500 block of Broadway in North Chicago is charged with four counts of armed robbery and three counts of burglary to motor vehicle and is being ordered held on $500,000 bond, according to Waukegan police.
Police said Evans was arrested Oct. 7 after being stopped in a vehicle near Golf and Ash roads in Waukegan. His vehicle matched the description of a vehicle used in several armed robberies and burglaries to motor vehicles in the north suburb.
All of Evans’ robbery victims were women, and one was a Catholic nun, according to Waukegan police Cmdr. Gabriel Guzman. In each robbery, Evans took out a pistol and threatened the victims, but did not harm them, he said.
Detectives found an “Air Soft” pellet gun in Evans’ waistband, as well as gloves and a mask. Proceeds from the crimes were also found inside of the vehicle, the release said.
Evans confessed to four armed robberies and three burglaries.
A search of Evans’ hotel room on North Green Bay Road also turned up proceeds from the crimes. One car burglary happened about an hour before Evans was apprehended.
