A toddler is dead and her grandmother hospitalized following a traffic accident in the West Pullman neighborhood Saturday morning.
Dominique Gilbert, 23-months, was pronounced dead at 11:18 a.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Dominique, of the 100 block of West 124th Street, and a female relative were in the crosswalk when the vehicle struck them, according to the spokesman.
The child and her grandmother were struck at 10:20 a.m. in the 12400 block of South State Street, said Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.
The woman and girl were initially taken in “very critical” condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
Zala put the grandmother’s condition as “stable” as of 2:45 p.m.
The driver of the vehicle that stayed on the scene was issued one citation for failure to yield to the pedestrians, but the investigation is “ongoing,’’ Zala said.
The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
