Star romances — as usual — are making headlines today:
† Looks like Justin Timberlake has finally realized Jessica Biel is “the one.” After breaking off their high-profile, four-year relationship in March, the couple recently have reconnected, and a close Timberlake ally said Tuesday, “Justin feels right about things with Jessica. …”
“He knows he’s tough to live with and has a mercurial personality, but the two of them have a very strong love for each other. … Justin also believes that she is the only woman who truly understands him and will be able to roll with the punches — able to keep their relationship going, living in the fishbowl existence that celebrities are forced to deal with.”
While dating, the duo was constantly plagued with breakup stories, which, my source said with a laugh, “I’m sure will rev up once again now that they are back together.”
† While members of Katy Perry and Russell Brand’s camp continually deny all the tales of the couple’s marriage being in trouble, those rumors are again rumbling — fueled by Brand’s absence at several key Perry events recently. While he did pop up for the MTV Video Music Awards red carpet Sunday, he was a noticeable no-show at the evening’s after-party.
“They have always followed schedules that are often very independent of each other,” said a Perry pal. “… I think things are fine — at least for now.”
CASEY CASH: While many folks are adamant about Casey Anthony making no money from book or movie deals, that doesn’t mean others won’t. The first big paycheck likely will go into the bank account of Jeff Ashton, as the Anthony case prosecutor’s “insider” book is scheduled to hit stores in November.
BEYONCE UPDATE: Beyonce’s pregnancy is having a big effect on a major film she is slated to star in — the latest version of the often-remade “A Star is Born.” Clint Eastwood is directing and had planned to start early next year. That now will be pushed back.
But it’s not all bad. While Clint’s first choice for the male lead (Leonardo DiCaprio, his star in “J. Edgar”) turned him down, now Eastwood has more time to find a replacement. Names bandied about include Will Smith and Christian Bale.
† Word has it Beyonce and Jay-Z’s baby will be born in February.
† Also hearing that Beyonce’s decision to reveal her baby bump at the VMAs Sunday was totally spontaneous and a big surprise for the daddy-to-be, who didn’t know she’d spill the beans — until she did!
TALK ABOUT ‘TALK’: Sounds like Julie Chen used her major clout to make those recent changes in the panel at CBS’ “The Talk.”
“She long has not been happy with Holly [Robinson Peete],” according to a source. “That girl was an even bigger diva than Julie. And that’s saying something!”
Chen also was instrumental in getting Leah Remini axed (“Julie thought her too much of a bore”) and in hiring her pal Kris Jenner, mom of Kim Kardashian. (“She believes some people will tune in just to see her, because of that big Kardashian obsession.”).
As for the addition of actress Sheryl Underwood? “Julie knows she can control her,” added the source.
Chen’s power, of course, comes from being married to CBS head honcho Les Moonves.
TIMELY TUNES: It should be a great night for music on Sept. 8 when Jonathan Butler headlines “Jazz and Soul Sessions” at the Mayne Stage on West Morse, an important fund-raiser for the Bernie Mac Foundation, established to raise funds in memory of Chicago native Mac and to fight the disease that killed him: sarcoidosis. The late comedian and actor was a huge fan of Butler’s — and the feeling was mutual — making this event so right-on. For ticket info, go to ticketweb.com
SEEN ON THE SCENE: Recent sightings at Alex Dana’s Rosebud on Rush include the Bears’ Lance Briggs and (separately) music legend Tony Bennett, his band and his daughter Antonia Bennett. … Rapper Shwayze happily dined and enjoyed a few Coronas with pals at the Cedar Hotel’s patio. … “It’s Always Sunny in … Chicago!” as Danny DeVito and wife Rhea Perlman lunched with family at Terzo Piano at the Art Institute’s Modern Wing. … When Rosie O’Donnell thought the noise level too high Monday night at Sunda, it was suggested she check out the more sedate Naha next door, where Rosie dined, then stopped to entertain the folks hangin’ at the bar on her way out the door. … While in town to play the Sox, Twins pitcher Matt Capps, plus teammates Scott Diamond, Anthony Swarzak, Luke Hughes, Trevor Plouffe and Rene Tosoni, feasted on steaks at Harry Caray’s on Kinzie.
