2 shot, 1 fatally, in Uptown near Truman College

Two men in their 20s were wounded -- one fatally -- in a drive-by shooting in the Uptown neighborhood Sunday night near Truman College.

The shooting occurred at 8:37 p.m. on the 1100 block of West Sunnyside Avenue, according to police.

The two victims, ages 21 and 23, were walking on the sidewalk when a vehicle drove by and a male passenger opened fired on them, according to a report from police News Affairs.

The 23-year-old who suffered a gunshot to the head and was dead on the scene was identified as Brian Gill, of the 4400 block of North Racine Avenue,, who was dead on the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office

The other man suffered gunshots to an arm and his side, police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines said. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, according to preliminary reports.

The shooting occurred just south of Truman College and down the block from Broncho Billy Park.

This was at least the second shooting in the area Sunday. About 4:25 p.m. a man was shot in the leg after he walked out of a store on the 4500 block of North Sheridan Road, according to police. He was taken to Weiss Hospital in good condition.

Belmont Area detectives are investigating the shootings.
