A bicyclist was listed in critical condition Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a semi-trailer truck in Northbrook, according to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.
Deborah Ehrlich, 50, of Northbrook, had appeared to be in good condition upon arrival at the hospital, Northbrook Deputy Fire Chief Ron Schinleber said.
“She was conscious and alert and talking to (paramedics) at the scene, complaining of discomfort in her right side,” he said.
Ehrlich was struck at the corner of Shermer and Willow roads just before 10 a.m. today.
A group of crash experts from area police departments is investigating the accident, which shut down Willow Road for more than an hour.
The driver of the truck was identified by Northbrook Police as Andre Dukes, 44, of Joliet. Northbrook Police spokesman Mike Shep said charges are pending against Dukes, who submitted to a blood test at Glenbrook Hospital after the accident.
The truck is registered to JRRW Transport of North Liberty, Iowa, Shep said.
Ehrlich is a pediatrician with an office in Deerfield. Schinleber said she was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
