The son of former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
Michael P. Ditka, 49, of Deerfield, was arrested just before midnight April 20, according to Rick Wilk, deputy chief of the Deerfield Police Department.
Wilk declined to identify the passenger in Ditka’s car at the time of his arrest.
Michael P. Ditka has been in legal trouble in the past, pleading guilty in 1998 to a battery charge for pushing his then-girlfriend at his Highland Park home.
He was sentenced to a year’s probation and ordered to pay a $100 fine, make a $500 contribution to a women’s shelter and undergo counseling.
At the time, prosecutors said Ditka acknowledged drinking beer and being upset about a New Orleans Saints football game on television. His father was the Saints’ coach when the incident occurred.
According to public records, Michael P. Ditka is also the holder of four patents, for concrete and roofing fasteners and an anchoring device.
