Man charged with threatening Ald. Burke held on $25,000 bail

Updated: August 4, 2011 4:20PM

An unemployed South Side man was ordered held in lieu of $25,000 bail Friday for allegedly threatening Ald. Ed Burke (14th).

Timothy J. Hercog, 48, left three messages at Burke’s South Side ward office earlier this week, Cook County prosecutors said. Hercog complained about sidewalks not being fixed in the two messages he left Sunday, Assistant State’s Attorney Erin Antonietti said.

But a message he left Wednesday was more sinister, according to Antonietti. In that message, Hercog said he was glad Rahm Emanuel was elected mayor before adding “Rahm is going to get Alderman Burke out,” Antonietti said. Hercog then allegedly said Burke better keep his bodyguards or “he’ll be dead.”

He also said that “everyone white in the ward wants to kill” Burke, Antonietti said.

Hercog, of the of the 4400 block of South Homan, did not appear in court Friday afternoon because he was hospitalized for an irregular heartbeat.

He has been charged with felony intimidation of a public official.
