What the mayoral candidates say about city residency rules

Updated: September 24, 2012 6:25AM

Should city employees be allowed to move to the suburbs? The candidates for mayor weigh in:

Rahm Emanuel: He’s “open” to having that conversation.

Miguel del Valle: No — that would destroy the city’s neighborhoods, he said.

Carol Moseley Braun: No — that would cause “a mass exodus of city employees,” she said.

Gery Chico: “We’re absolutely mature enough to put this issue on the table and at least discuss it. If I thought it was threatening the middle class, I wouldn’t have put it on the table.”

Patricia Van-Pelt Watkins: Would like more time to research the issue.

William “Dock” Walls III: Supports keeping the residency requirement.
