CTA, Metra: We’re ready for blizzard

The CTA and Metra say they’re ready for the pending blizzard — and some hotels are prepared for stranded travelers.

♦ Buses and trains will operate on a regular weekday schedule, but the CTA is prepared to provide early rush hour service today should riders leave work early.

♦ Snow blades will be on the front of all CTA rail cars to clear snow.

♦ All Metra employees will be on call as Metra implements its snow emergency plan, and crews will shovel and salt platforms and check switches to clear them of ice and snow.

♦ The South Shore will add cars to its mid-day eastbound trains departing from Chicago Tuesday to accommodate passengers leaving work early in advance of the blizzard. The affected trains will include the trains departing Chicago at 12:38 p.m., 2:35 p.m., and 3:15 p.m. Extreme weather may delay crews from reporting to their assigned trains on Wednesday morning, which could affecting the morning train schedule, officials said.

♦ The Holiday Inn and Hyatt Regency are offering “blizzard” rates for stranded travelers.
