The coming storm — just the facts
THE FORECAST
National Weather Service meteorologists predict a major winter storm is “imminent.”
• Blizzard warning is in effect from 3 p.m. Tuesday until 3 p.m. Wednesday.
• Worst conditions — high winds and 2 to 3 inches of snow per hour — expected between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 5 a.m. Wednesday.
• Snow accumulation expected to be more than a foot — and more than 18 inches near Lake Michigan.
• Low temperatures in the teens with below-zero wind chills.
• Northeasterly winds gusting up to 40 mph — up to 60 mph near the lake.
• White-out conditions that could make traveling “impossible” because of blowing snow and up to 4-foot high drifts.
• Lakeshore Flood Watch is in effect. Waves could reach 14- to 18-foot high offshore, causing costal water levels to increase and possibly send ice and water onto Lake Shore Drive and erode beaches.
