With snow coming, Legislature cancels work week
BY DAVE MCKINNEY Sun-Times Springfield Bureau
Predictions of up to 14 inches of snow by Wednesday in Springfield and greater amounts closer to Chicago caused the cancellation Monday of the House and Senate for the full week.
Both legislative chambers were scheduled to be in session Tuesday and Wednesday. The Senate also had a Thursday session planned.
Cancelling session days for the first time since a 2006 ice storm paralyzed the capital city “was really a precaution based on the predictions from the National Weather Service given so many members are coming from all over the state, including Chicago,” said Rikeesha Phelon, spokeswoman for Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago).
