A Northwest Side woman was sentenced to 12 years in prison for severely burning her infant’s feet in scalding hot water.
Cook County Judge Lawrence Flood sentenced Damaira Roman, 27, on Thursday after she pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated battery to a child for the April 5, 2008 incident.
Roman immersed her 10-month-old son’s feet in the water in her apartment and then called the boy’s father to complain that the baby wouldn’t stop crying and had a blister on his foot, prosecutors said.
When the man arrived at the apartment in the 4900 block of North Kedzie, he noticed the boy’s injuries and immediately took the child to the hospital — more than 24 hours after he was burned, prosecutors said.
