Updated: August 29, 2014 10:14AM

An off-duty paramedic delivered his own baby on the Edens Expressway Friday morning.

Daniel Lynch of the Evanston Fire Department and his wife, Elizabeth, were on their way to a local hospital early Friday morning when they pulled over to deliver the baby. They were northbound near Touhy Avenue when he stopped the car about 4:30 a.m., according to Lincolnwood police and Illinois State Troopers.

Officials say Daniel Lynch continued to drive his family to the hospital after his daughter was born. The couple, who lives in Edison Park, named their daughter Mary Margaret Lynch.

According to the hospital, the baby is healthy and weighs 8 pounds, 7 ounces.
