A man fatally shot Thursday morning in the Humboldt Park neighborhood is the father of a 13-year-old boy killed in gunfire last week in East Garfield Park, police sources said.
The shooting happened at 9:23 a.m. in the 4100 block of West Crystal, police News Affairs Officer Ana Pachecho said.
Sam Walker, 34, was running from an armed male who was shooting at him, officials said. He was shot in the torso and head and pronounced dead on the scene.
Police said the victim had gang affiliations and the shooting is possibly gang-related.
A police source said the man is the father of Samuel Walker, who was fatally shot last Friday when someone opened fire on a group in the 700 block of South California.
Six other people, including two other teenage boys, were wounded in the 6 p.m. shooting near where a church group was holding a gathering for youth to pray and play games.
The younger Walker, of the 3000 block of West Flournoy, was shot in the head and died at the scene, officials said.
Police later said they found a car nearby that they believed was used in the shooting. The vehicle appeared to be torched, they said.
