One person died and at least nine others were injured in shootings Tuesday on the city’s South and West sides.
A 30-year-old man was shot and killed in the West Garfield Park neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.
Daniel Jones was shot in the head about 4:45 p.m. in the 3900 block of West Washington Street, police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said.
Jones, of the 4100 block of West Wilcox Street, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 5:22 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
In the most recent non-fatal shooting, a 14-year-old was critically wounded in the West Side North Lawndale neighborhood.
The teenager was standing on the sidewalk in the 1400 block of South Drake Avenue at 10:25 p.m. Tuesday when a male walked up and shot him, police said.
He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the lower back.
About ten minutes earlier, a man had been shot in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.
The 23-year-old was standing in the 5400 block of West Walton Street about 10:15 p.m. when someone fired shots from the sidewalk through a vacant lot, police said.
The shooter got into a light colored sedan, which drove away, police said.
The 23-year-old was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with a graze wound to his head and was listed in “stable” condition, police said.
A man was shot and critically wounded about 9:30 p.m. in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood on the South Side.
The 22-year-old was standing on the street in the 100 block of East 42nd Street when another male shot him. The shooter got in to a white minivan, which drove away, police said.
The victim was shot in the legs, groin and abdomen and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
About four hours earlier, four people were injured — one seriously — in a shooting on the South Side in the Oakland neighborhood.
The four were shot in the 3700 block of South Langley Avenue about 5:30 p.m., police said. They made it on their own to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center.
A 22-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and was in “stable” condition; a 40-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the hip and was in “stable” condition; a 31-year-old woman was shot in the arm and was in good condition and a 30-year-old man was shot in the chin, neck and chest and was listed in serious condition, police said.
About 2:20 p.m., a teen was shot in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.
The 17-year-old was shot in the 6800 block of South Marshfield Avenue, police said.
He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was listed in “stable” condition with a gunshot wound to the buttocks, police said.
Tuesday’s first shooting happened about 12:20 p.m. in the South Side East Chicago neighborhood, critically injuring a 25-year-old man.
The man was shot in the chest in the 9800 block of South Avenue J, police said.
He was taken to Christ Medical Center in critical condition. The shooting was a possible drive-by, police said.
