Which mayoral hopeful is Jennifer Hudson backing?

Rahm ’em . . .

Tipsville: Sneed hears Chicago native/singer Jennifer Hudson, whose family was brutally slain in their Chicago home in 2008, will star in a special performance on behalf of Rahm Emanuel’s campaign next month.

† To wit: Hudson, who met Emanuel at a White House performance celebrating the civil rights movement last February, has agreed to perform free of charge. Emanuel met the singer when he took his children backstage to greet her. No word yet on ticket prices for the fund-raiser, but it will be held Jan. 10 at the House of Blues.

Happy New Year!!!

Sneed is told 23 district police managers — all civilians — will be given pink slips on Dec. 31!

† Cash slash: It’s a little-known part of city budget cuts, which will save the city $2.6 million — and send district commanders scurrying to find someone else to fix the broken toilets.

Lonely ballot . . .

Ald. Ed Burke, the dean of the City Council, will run unopposed.

† Fact: Burke had three opponents at the beginning of the week.

† Fact: One dropped out Monday.

† Fact: Two others dropped out Friday.

† Question: Is that one reason Ald. Burke was merrily/cheerily ringing the bell at the Salvation Army pot at Washington and State Streets Friday?

† Side note: Burke now joins a rare group of unopposed aldermen: Brendan Reilly (42nd), Dick Mell (33rd) and Patrick O’Connor (40th).

A Brit bit . . .

Now comes word Prince William and fiancee Kate Middleton made a special trip to the dentist to have their teeth whitened before their engagement announcement. Just another example of hard investigative reporting by the Brit tabloid press.

Mail bin . . .

A reader note concerning the tale of Mary M. Infantino, who was dead on arrival as a “Jane Doe” at Advocate Christ Medical Center via ambulance last Friday after she was hit by a car. Her wedding ring and jewelry were inventoried at the hospital — but then disappeared.

“Dear M. Sneed approximately three years ago my father, who was 80 at the time, had quadruple bypass surgery at ------- hospital. At some point before surgery they took off my dad’s 45-year- old gold wedding ring, which he himself could no longer voluntarily remove because it was so tight. Because of all the stress my family was under at the time, it was months later that we noticed my father was no longer wearing his wedding ring. When we contacted the hospital we got the runaround, and we eventually gave up. We still have dad with us today, but that ring was irreplaceable both emotionally and monetarily! Just wanted to let your readers know that it’s not just happening to dead people.”

Sincerely yours,

David P.
